Motor Vehicle Accident Checklist

If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident, you should undertake the following steps:

  • Contact the police if they did not come to the scene of the accident
  • Record the names of all people involved in the accident and all witnesses
  • Make personal notes as a record about how the accident happened
  • Inform your family doctor of your injury
  • Inform your employer or school of your injury
  • Maintain a list of all health care professionals that you visit
  • Maintain a journal listing all medical and rehabilitation appointments
  • Keep copies of all receipts incurred as a result of the accident
  • Canvas all possible sources of insurance coverage (i.e. disability, medical, etc…)
  • Consult with personal injury lawyer
